On 10 June 2026, the 5th Annual Meeting of the Polish Archaeological Institute at Athens (PAIA) for the year 2025 was held at l’École française d’Athènes. The meeting was chaired by the Head of the Academic Board of PAIA, Prof. Kazimierz Lewartowski. Prof. Janusz Czebreszuk, Director of PAIA, presented a report on the Institute’s activities in 2025. Nearly 80 guests attended the event.
Opening remarks were delivered by Wojciech Ponikiewski, Chargé d’affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Athens, and Prof. Artur Błażejewski, Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Wrocław. Later in the program, PAIA Deputy Director Prof. Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka presented the results of the Polish-German-Greek fieldwork carried out under the auspices of PAIA at Thelpousa in Arcadia, Peloponnese, during the 2024–2025 season.
Among the many distinguished guests in attendance were Michał Zawisza, Consul of the Republic of Poland in Greece; Dr Eirene Poupaki from the Greek Ministry of Culture; Prof. Georgia Kokkorou-Alevras; Dr Maria Foteini Papakonstantinou from the Ephorate of Antiquities of Phthiotida and Evrytania; Anna Saridis, Director of the Polish School in Athens; Fr. Dr Marcin Baran; Prof. Marzena Szmyt, Director of the Archaeological Museum in Poznań, Poland; Dr Jan Paul Crielaard, Director of the Netherlands Institute at Athens; Prof. Jenny Wallensten, Director of the Swedish Institute at Athens; Prof. Andreou Vouvalidis; Prof. Stelios Andreou from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; Dr Tobias Krapf, Deputy Head of the Swiss School of Archaeology in Greece; Prof. Peter Pavuk from the Institute of Classical Archaeology of Charles University, Prague; Prof. Krzysztof Nawotka; Dr Christiane Tytgat; Dr Chris Hale; and many other distinguished guests.
The meeting was also attended by a group of Greek students participating in the excavations at Thelpousa, together with the project’s co-director, Dr Giorgos Doulfis. Joining them were students from AMU involved in the SPERCHIOS project, accompanied by the project director, Prof. Jakub Niebieszczański.
Guests also had the opportunity to explore the 4th PAIA Annual Report, featuring summaries of field projects and other research conducted under the PAIA banner, as well as conferences, summer schools, academic lectures, and cultural events organized over the past year. The report is also available on the PAIA website.
