On October 14, the presentation of Archaeology Without Makeup by Beata Kukiel-Vraila took place at the Collegium Humanisticum of Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. The event was also attended by two of the book’s protagonists – Prof. Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka and Prof. Inga Głuszek.
The event was moderated by Dr. Magdalena Krajcarz. The opening remarks were delivered by the Vice-Rector of Nicolaus Copernicus University, Prof. Magdalena Barwiołek, and the Vice-Dean for Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Marlena Jabłońska. Among the speakers were also the Vice-Dean for Research and Cooperation with the External Environment, Prof. Inga Głuszek, and the Director of the Polish Archaeological Institute at Athens (PAIA), Prof. Janusz Czebreszuk.
The book was presented by its author, a journalist and Assistant Director of PAIA in Athens, Beata Kukiel-Vraila, who then led a conversation with the book’s protagonists present at the event. The audience, including a large number of students, had the opportunity to hear inspiring stories of female researchers associated with PAIA, who challenged stereotypes regarding the role of women in science.
Before the main event, the guests met with the Dean of the Faculty of Historical Sciences, Prof. Waldemar Rozynkowski. Mieczysława Makarowicz, responsible for the linguistic proofreading of the book, and Marek Władyka, a member of PAIA, also participated in the meeting.
Archaeology Without Makeup is the first publication in the “PAIA Culture” series. The bilingual (Polish-English) book features interviews with Prof. Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka, Prof. Marzena Szmyt, Dr. Zofia Stos-Gale, Dr. Stephanie Aulsebrook, Prof. Agata Ulanowska, Prof. Inga Głuszek, Prof. Bogumiła Kaniewska, and Prof. Véronique Chankowski.
