On April 30, 2025, a lecture by Prof. Mateusz Stróżyński (Institute of Classical Philology, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań) entitled “Sacred Statues: Plotinus on the Platonic Forms” took place. The professor presented his original interpretation of the concept of agalma in the thought of Plotinus, analyzing its significance both in the context of Neoplatonic philosophy and aesthetic experience. In his talk, he emphasized the role of art as a possible path to philosophical knowledge and highlighted the spiritual dimension of artistic creation.
A lively discussion followed the lecture, during which participants reflected on possible developments of the concept of agalma, as well as the role of art and religion in the interpretation of Plotinus’ philosophy. The event provided an excellent opportunity for intellectual exchange and a deeper reflection on the relevance of ancient metaphysics.
