We are pleased to share a report on the presentation of Beata Kukiel-Vraila’s book Archeologia bez makijażu (Archaeology Without Makeup), which took place on 16 October at the Jagiellonian University, in the Institute of Archaeology. The event, chaired by Dr Małgorzata Kajzer, featured — in addition to the author — two of the book’s protagonists closely connected with Kraków: Professor Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka and Dr Zofia Stos-Gale. The guests were welcomed by the Vice-Dean of the Faculty of History of the Jagiellonian University, Professor Sławomir Sprawski.
The book presentation, which brings together interviews with outstanding female scholars associated with the Polish Archaeological Institute at Athens (PAIA), highlighted their experiences in breaking stereotypes about women’s roles and positions in academia. The event was held in the beautiful Gothic Hall, whose unique atmosphere encouraged open and lively conversations that continued long after the official part had ended.
The bilingual (Polish–English) book Archaeology Without Makeup is the first publication in the PAIA Culture series. It was funded by the Faculty of History of the Jagiellonian University, within the framework of the Strategic Programme Excellence Initiative at the Jagiellonian University and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. We warmly thank the Dean of the Faculty of History of the Jagiellonian University, Professor Stanisław A. Sroka, for his support of this exceptional and important project.
