On 10 November, we had the great pleasure of hosting the Marcin Wasilewski Trio at PAIA — one of the most esteemed and distinctive jazz ensembles of their generation both in Poland and internationally. The musicians — Marcin Wasilewski on piano, Sławomir Kurkiewicz on double bass, and Michał Miśkiewicz on drums — celebrated thirty years of performing together by including Athens in their global anniversary tour. Their concert, funded by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and co-organised by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Greece, inaugurated the Jazz Festival at the Athens Concert Hall (Jazz@Megaron).
Despite a demanding schedule, the artists kindly accepted our invitation and granted an interview to PAIA’s Cultural Program Coordinator, Beata Kukiel-Vraila. The meeting was also attended by Professor Ewdoksia Papuci-Władyka, Deputy Director of PAIA, along with other members of our institute.
We express our sincere gratitude to the musicians for accepting our invitation, and to the band’s manager, Mr Sławomir Wrzask, for his assistance in organising the event.
